7th Annual Downtown Eastside Heart of the City Festival

A unique multi-disciplinary inner city arts-based festival
Wednesday, October 27, 2010
The Downtown Eastside Heart of the City Festival is a unique multi-disciplinary inner city arts-based festival produced annually by DTES/Strathcona based and veteran interdisciplinary theatre company Vancouver Moving Theatre in association with the Carnegie Community Centre, the Association of United Ukrainian Canadians and a host of community partners including the Strathcona Community Centre. Since its founding in 2004 the Downtown Eastside Heart of the City Festival has become a flagship for the development of arts in the Downtown Eastside/Strathcona and Vancouver.

The mandate of the Downtown Eastside Heart of the City Festival is to promote, present and facilitate development of artists, art forms, cultural traditions, history, activism, people and great stories about Vancouver’s greater Downtown Eastside (Strathcona, Japantown, Chinatown, Main and Hastings Corridor, Gastown, Victory Square).

Produced in late October and early November of each year, the festival features a wide diversity of artistic disciplines, artists, cultural traditions, and ancillary events at over 30 venues throughout the community. The core staff are Strathcona/DTES residents Terry Hunter (Artistic Producer), Teresa Vandertuin (Associate Artistic Producer) and Savannah Walling (Associate Artistic Director).
