DTES Powwow & Cultural Celebration

3rd Annual Honouring Our Elders Powwow in the DTES
Saturday, September 14, 2013
from their website:

Last year's DTES Honouring Our Elders Powwow was an overwhelming success with seven local drums represented, dozens of dancers, over 500 attendees from the DTES area and representation from Urban Native Youth Association, Lookout Aid Society, Vancouver Aboriginal Children and Family Social Services, Vancouver Traditional Grandmothers and Grandfathers, Native Health, VCH Aboriginal Wellness Program, Sheway, UBC, Rhodes Wellness College, Vancouver Food Bank, First United Church and the Carnegie Community Center. Community members continue to talk about the event and the value of making low-barrier cultural programming available in the DTES. Additionally, at the event we were able to feed guests free of charge, provide bottled water, connect participants to local Aboriginal services, and continue to foster a sense of community and belonging for the elders in the DTES.
