NEWS: Local Area Plan and Union Street Closures

A quick note

1. Reminding residents about the important Local Area Plan - open house tomorrow,
July 20 at the Strathcona Community Centre from 11am - 3pm.

This 30-year plan proposes some pretty significant changes to our neighbourhood and the surrounding area, including things like housing, land use, traffic and building heights on Hastings. If you live or plan to live in Strathcona, you should probably check it out.

2. City Staff have agreed to meet with residents and businesses from Chinatown, Strathcona and City Gate regarding proposals to close Union Street in an effort to reduce the number of vehicles by 2/3 as part of their proposed Adanac Bikeway "upgrades". The meeting will be:
7pm, Monday 22, 1128 Quebec (at National)

City Gate residents, like Strathcona and Chinatown are upset at the lack of City consultation - many are just finding out about the plans by way of construction notices advising construction to start this Monday. The tone coming from the City so far is that they have no intention of consulting with local stakeholders over this ill advised plan and lack of consultation and there is a great deal of enthusiasm for the multi-community rally Tuesday Morning- the tone of which will likely be determined by Monday's meeting.
