Hello friends and neighbours,
A quick reminder that we will be having a second Prior Street/Viaducts Working Group Meeting: this Wednesday, March 20, 7:15pm in the Activity Room at the Strathcona Community Centre (601 Keefer St.)
So far, there has been no published agenda for City Council to vote on the viaducts removal plan that will deliver a six-lane highway onto Prior Street - but this could happen as soon as April 9!
On February 26, the SRA, along with False Creek Residents Association, Ray-Cam, Downtown Eastside Neighbourhood Council, Strathcona PAC, and Strathcona BIA issued a joint letter to the City outlining our five conditions for support of viaducts removal, (http://strathcona-residents.org/viaducts/2013-statement-on-viaducts-remo...).
The concern is that the City will attempt to push through the viaducts removal plan as it stands, and in the absence of any meaningful community consultation or input — so it is imperative that we get our voices out and in front of the media before this plan goes to vote, and demand Prior Street calming and an Eastern Core Strategy as part of any viaducts removal
In the coming weeks we will be planning our community response, including:
• Increased signage along Prior
• Outreach to our neighbours, other community stakeholders and the media.
We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday. All are welcome.
Please mark your calendars:
There will be a follow up planning meeting the following Wednesday March 27 in the Mulitpurpose Room.
— Pete Fry, SRA Chair
