Update: Community Potluck before regular meeting this Wednesday!

Monday, October 31, 2016

UPDATES:
Apologies, our earlier email negelected to mention early-start pre-meeting potluck! Break bread with your neighbours! Please join us at 6:30 for a pre-meeting potluck - bring something to share, and your appetite for food and conversation.

Potluck will be followed by our regular meeting agenda, including Union Street presentation, sent out earlier (see below), starting at 7:15. We'll be adding to the agenda an opportunity to discuss this weekends oped from the Strathcona BIA (Opinion: Strathcona businesses seek more meaningful consultation). Is Vancouver Coastal Health doing an adequate job consulting with the community? Let's discuss!

And speaking of businesses: a reminder, to fill out our "local serving retail" survey if you haven't already! Take a few minutes to help inform the city of what kind of shops and services you hope to see as part of the City's Community Economic Development strategy. Fill out the online survey here.

Lastly, if you are reading this Monday: don't forget tonight is Halloween and lots of ghosties and ghoulies will be out on our streets. Please drive/cycle carefully!

Meeting Wed Nov 2: Neighbourhood news & Union Street Bike Route safety (city presentation)

Hello friends and neighbours,

Our regular November Residents Association meeting is this coming Wednesday November 2, 7:15pm at the Strathcona Community Centre.

We’ll have the latest news and events around the neighbourhood, including plans for the AGM, report on Community Economic Development Strategy, Prior Street Safety and viaducts removal, as well as updates about renovictions and intimidation of our neighbours at the Georgia Hotel.

We are also hosting a conversation with the City of Vancouver’s Public Engagement Lead, Lynn Guilbault to talk about the Union-Adanac Corridor. In preparation for public consultation in January, the city would like hear about concerns and ideas for improving conditions for people who live, walk, cycle and drive in the neighbourhood.

Do you live, walk, bike or drive on Union Street? This will be an important opportunity for the community to express thoughts, concerns or needs for the local serving street, pedestrian safety and the commuter bike route.
