Volunteers needed this Saturday, to improve the children's play spaces, gardens around Community Centre!

hello Strathcona friends and neighbours,

We'll be distributing meeting agenda, minutes and expanded community announcements next week, but wanted to remind everyone about this coming saturday's big work party, and how you can get involved.

Jill Stieler writes:

Strathcona Community Centre, through Volunteer Canada and Starbucks, have received another 'Day of Service' grant to improve the children's play spaces and gardens around the Community Centre. This year we have been able to offer a large project offsite: to build and distribute garden boxes to the residents of Maclean Park Housing, at Jackson and Keefer.

We are looking for community members to volunteer as "Team Leads" on the day. Leaders would be responsible for guiding small groups of volunteers from Starbucks to complete projects, both at the community centre, as well as at Maclean housing.

In particular, we are needing people with carpentry skills, to lead volunteers in the assembly of raised wooden garden boxes. We are also looking for Leaders with gardening experience, to direct and assist with the filling and planting of boxes with volunteers and families.

The event takes place on April 20th, from approximately 8 am - 1 pm. Coffee, snacks and lunch are provided by Starbucks. There will be approximately 300 volunteers working together, which makes for a very fun and exhilarating day!

If you are interested and able to help with this project, please contact Jill Stieler at, at your earliest convenience. We would love to have you join us! Thank you for your consideration.
