Strathcona, Vancouver's First Neighbourhood

Strathcona, Vancouver’s oldest and truly unique neighbourhood, has been called a slum, “home of the working man,” and absolutely charming. Starting out as a collection of shacks and cottages around the Hastings Mill, it developed into a residential area that quickly moved south and east away from the mill... Hello neighbours,

Although the SRA traditionally breaks from monthly meetings in July and August, we have just heard from the City of Vancouver that ‘ The future of Vancouver’s viaducts will be decided in September’.  City Council decided to defer the decision about viaducts removal two years ago in light of Strathcona’s and other neighbourhood’s concerns with a lack of larger-picture planning and understanding of the removal...

Hi everyone,

Before we get into upcoming events and ongoing topics we’d like to mention that we have received several notifications from neighbours about attempted break-ins to homes, both during the day and at night. Several vehicles have also been broken into in the last week. Unfortunately, summer weather often brings an increase in property crime. Please be extra aware of your surroundings, lock doors and windows and report all incidents to the police. See our...

Come out to hear latest news and a chance to have a conversation with Ecomm, the company that answers 911 and non-emergency calls for the Vancouver Police Department.   As some of you may remember, we heard many comments about dissatisfaction with Ecomm service at the...

Hello neighbours,

We have received several reports from neighbours around Strathcona about recent break-in attempts, especially in the early morning hours. This rise in attempted break-ins usually happens in the summer, but it seems to be earlier this year.

This is especially worrisome in light of the violent assault on Hawks Avenue in late March, and the fire on Hastings http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/2-dead-in-fire-on-hastings-street-in-east-...
