Vancouver Folk Ensemble – JunkOy! Klezmer Band – Sulam
– Vancouver Folk Ensemble is the longtime musical group of Strathcona’s Association of United Ukrainian Canadians. They perform traditional music from Ukraine.
– Magical Crimea’s JunkOy! Klezmer Band: JunkOy’s music is a combination of Klezmer, Tango, Ska, RnR & Gypsy Jazz and its repertoire comes from traditional tunes & old Soviet songs written by Jews and translated into English.
JunkOy’s name (The Village of the Spirit) comes from center of the Jewish agricultural settlement in Crimea.
The band has one album so far: “Once Upon a Time in Odessa,” consisting of songs hailing from 1930s.

– Sulam: Inspired by music from the Middle East and Africa, as well as Flamenco, Klezmer, Yiddish, Gypsy and Jewgrass, Sulam explores Hebrew text through Jewish World Music.
Sulam’s members include: Elana Brief (violin); Martin Gotfrit (guitar, mandolin, vocals); Charles Kaplan (guitar, oud, vocals); Laura Duhan Kaplan (spoken word, vocals); Dave Kauffman (clarinet); Joe Markovitch (bass, vocals); Wendy Rubin (keyboard, flute, melodica, vocals).
