Reminder Tomorrow: Drug Crisis and Strathcona, Community Forum

Wednesday, January 18, 2017

Reminder: tomorrow, Thursday 19th
Healthy Communities Conversation, 7-9pm Strathcona Community Centre

What is harm reduction? How are we responding to the overdose crisis?
What new services and supports are being relocated to the area?
What systems are in place for the overall health and safety of the community?

Today, the City released a staff report recommending increased funding for first responders and a Community Policing Centre for Strathcona, while the BC Coroner's office announced a record total of 914 drug overdose deaths for 2016

Please join us for a special community forum panel discussion, and Q&A with senior representatives from:
- Vancouver Coastal Health
- City of Vancouver
- Vancouver Police Department
- Strathcona Business Improvement Association
- First Nations Health Authority
- BC Housing
as well as lived experience service users
and residents including SRA and Stamp's Place Tenants Council

The evening will open with an Aboriginal Welcome from Dalannah Bowen, and short presentations from Dr. Patty Daly, Chief Medical Health Officer at Vancouver Coastal Health; Dr. Evan Adams, Chief Medical Officer at First Nations Health Authority; and Tom Wanklin, City of Vancouver's Senior Planner for Downtown Eastside.

The planned outcome of this forum will be a collaborative strategy and the creation of a pilot VCH-Strathcona Community Reference Group, with residents, users, authorities and agencies working together and proactively to ensure a healthy community for all.
