Strathcona, Vancouver's First Neighbourhood

Strathcona, Vancouver’s oldest and truly unique neighbourhood, has been called a slum, “home of the working man,” and absolutely charming. Starting out as a collection of shacks and cottages around the Hastings Mill, it developed into a residential area that quickly moved south and east away from the mill... Hello neighbours,
We have received several reports from neighbours around Strathcona about recent break-in attempts, especially in the early morning hours. This rise in attempted break-ins usually happens in the summer, but it seems to be earlier this year.
This is especially worrisome in light of the violent assault on Hawks Avenue in late March, and the fire on Hastings

Hello neighbours,

March was a turbulent month. It began with the heated debate about an Atira development proposal at 420 Hawks which on many levels is out of line with the DTES Local Area Plan. See notes below.

Later in the month we heard that City Council voted to adjust the definition...

The solidarity walk was organized by local Strathcona women. A fundraising campaign, started by another neighbour, has already raised over $38,000 to go towards the survivor’s healing and recovery. These are intense times in Strathcona. The strength and engagement of our...

Tonight at 7pm, Strathconans and friends will be meeting outside the Community Centre to walk and show love, solidarity, and support for the survivor of yesterday's brutal assault in our neighbourhood.
There has been a lot of online speculation and gossiping about alleged details of this awful incident — the VPD have advised this isn't helpful to the survivor or the ongoing investigation by police. Tonight is about the community showing solidarity and support for the survivor,...

1. Guest Speakers: When you mention Car 87 in Vancouver, some people might think you’re talking about the local punk rock group by that name.
