City Council Staff heard on May 17th the draft of the False Creek Flats area plan, including the proposal for an arterial to be built alongside Malkin Street, National Street or Williams Street. Due to the unavailability of speakers for our May SRA Meeting, we are postponing our gathering to discuss "The Diversity of Strathcona" to next month's meeting on June 6th. We will also revisit the Centerm Port Expansion and the city's plans for the new St. Paul’s Hospital and integrated health campus in the False Creek Flats.

The Vancouver Park Board are currently considering a renewal for Strathcona Park (between Prior St, Malkin St, Raymur Ave, and Hawks Ave).

During our SRA meeting in November 2016, we had a chance to meet with the City of Vancouver's Public Engagement team to express our thoughts, concerns and needs for Union Street as a gateway for residents, pedestrians, cyclists, local services and motorists. We have distilled our opinions and communicated those to the City during the last months.

In December 2016, the Vancouver City Council allocated a 0.5% emergency property tax increase to combat the fentanyl crisis, which included overdose response, a new fire truck and crew, mobile medical unit, training, supplies, and a commitment to a long overdue community policing centre for Strathcona.
A formal motion to support this commitment was announced last week, and will be voted on (tomorrow) morning, Wednesday January 25.
