Our first is Gloria Bernardino, who for over 30 years has gone to work nearly every day at six in the morning to oversee the preparation of the amazing variety of food offered at the Union Market. Over those years, Gloria has quietly and selflessly done hundreds of acts of kindness for many individuals and families in Strathcona. We will greatly miss her dedication and generosity and wish her many years of well-deserved relaxation and family time. Thank you, Gloria! Membership Drive The SRA currently has around 450 members. We’d like to see more. But we need your help. Why join? What’s the value of a residents association for you? Sometimes, a single voice is not enough. Sometimes, a neighbourhood needs a way to speak up as a community. On issues like traffic, air quality, zoning, park improvements and the impact of developments all around us, residents are better served by being organized.Since 1992, the SRA has tried to be a voice for the people of Strathcona. But there are many newcomers who don’t know we exist. And a few old timers who’ve decided we don’t matter. The fact is that the more members we have, the more the people-in-charge take us seriously. So we’re asking you – yes, you – for a little help. If you’re not already a member, please join. It’s free. You get on our mailing list. You get invites and vote. You get a voice in how we address issues as a community. If you’re already a member, please forward this newsletter to neighbours who might not be and invite them to join. This neighbourhood exists because of the organized efforts of residents to preserve it from slum clearance. Please join us to become an active part of Strathcona’s future.
